Meet Ian Chwatuk, Esq.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, I later moved to Alabama to attend the University of Alabama, where I earned my degree in Hospitality Management. My career began in the hospitality industry, where I served as a manager with Marriott and developed a strong passion for customer service and building relationships.
After my time in hospitality, I transitioned into banking and eventually real estate, where I continue to work as a Realtor helping individuals and families achieve the dream of homeownership. Wanting to expand my ability to serve clients and better understand the legal
side of real estate transactions, I made the decision to return to school and pursue a law degree. While attending Birmingham School of Law in the evenings, I worked two full-time jobs—an experience that strengthened my work ethic and commitment to helping others.
Today, I am proud to serve as an Attorney, Realtor, and Adjunct Professor of Hospitality Law at The University of Alabama.
I co-founded Legacy Southern Title & Closing with my good friend and colleague Kenny Betts, because we genuinely enjoy working with people and being part of one of the most meaningful milestones in their lives— homeownership. Helping individuals and families successfully close on their homes and investments here in Alabama is something we take great pride in, and it is the foundation of what Legacy Southern Title & Closing is all about.
Meet Kenny Betts, Esq.
I was born and raised in Alabaster, Alabama, where faith, family, and community shaped the foundation of who I am today. Those early experiences instilled in me a deep appreciation for hard work, integrity, and the importance of serving others—values that continue to guide my life and career.
My journey began at The University of Alabama, where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree and had the privilege of playing football for the Crimson Tide from 2010–2011. Being part of that program taught me discipline, accountability, and what it means to be part of something bigger than yourself.
After graduating, I pursued my passion for problem solving and infrastructure by earning a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham between 2015 and 2018. That engineering background sharpened my analytical mindset and attention to detail—skills that would later become invaluable in the legal world.
In 2022, I began law school at the Birmingham School of Law, where I discovered a calling in real estate law and the impact it has on families and communities. I graduated with my Juris Doctorate in 2025, passed the Alabama State Bar Exam, and became a licensed attorney in the state I’ve always called home.
With a desire to bring clarity, hospitality, and genuine care to the closing experience, I co founded Legacy Southern Title & Closing with my colleague and friend, Attorney Ian Chwatuk. Together, we built Legacy Southern on a simple belief: every closing represents a milestone in someone’s life, and it deserves to be handled with respect, precision, and true Southern hospitality.
Today, I’m proud to serve clients across Alabama—helping families, investors, and businesses navigate one of the most meaningful steps in their journey. Legacy Southern isn’t just a company to me; it’s a reflection of my roots, my values, and my commitment to making a positive impact in the place I call home.
